ANSWER: 46.

EXPLANATION: Wagons 1, 2, and 3 contain 99 passengers. So do wagons 6, 7, and 8 and wagons 9, 10, and 11. There are 350 passengers in all which means that wagons 4 and 5 contain a total of 350 - 99 - 99 - 99 = 53 passengers. We know that wagons 4, 5, and 6 also contain 99 passengers, so there are 46 passengers in wagon 6.


An interesting side note is that all wagons that are three apart (e.g. wagon 1 and wagon 4) must contain the same number of passengers.
